The aspergillum is the sprinkler that is used for Asperges, the name given to the rite of sprinkling a congregation with Holy Water. Traditionally performed during the Easter vigil, Christmas, and the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, this rite is the opportunity to be reminded of the waters of our baptism. So many of us can remember those moments of "Did I get blessed if the water didn't hit me? Or the other end of a dripping wet face when Father really blasts you with a forceful swing!
